Why did the Germans begin to move south toward the Roman Empire?
Because they searched warmer climates and better grazing land for their cattle, so they slowly drifted to Germany.

Why were the Germans allowed cross the borders of the Roman Empire?
The Romans didn’t allowed them to cross over because they saw them as enemies, but the Germans still kept coming in and defeated the Romans also. They had not enough power anymore to hold them away.

How did German warriors show their loyalty to their chieftain?
They fought with them in fight and accepted every rule what they made. Sometimes they also credits for the brave deeds. They said, that the chieftain’s fought for the win and warriors fought for the chieftain.

What did the Germans believe the afterlife would be like for warriors?
They fought, that they would come to Valhalla. This was the hall of Wooden and the warriors would feast and fight forever.

According to the Germans believes, from what source did law come?
They believed, that the law came from the emperor. It also came from the people and the ruler was not able to change a law unless the people approved.

What was the reason for the German ordeal by water?
A person was tied hand and foot and thrown into a lake or river. The Germans viewed water as a symbol of purity. If a person floated, he or she was guilty.

Why did the West Goths want to enter the Roman Empire?
Because at the late 300, the east Goth’s were attacked by Attila the hunt. The west Goth’s fought, that they would be the next so they asked the roman emperor for protection. He let them settle just inside the empires frontier. In return they gave up weapons and loyalty to the Romans.

What happened to Rome after its capture by Odoacer in 476 A.D?
He ruled the western empire in his own name for 15 years. Then a group of east Goth’s invaded Italy and killed him and set up a kingdom under their leader Theodoric.
